Breaking News! Pollock Just took home four first place awards from the WNY music People's Choice awards! Pollock won four 1st place awards this year, "Best lyrics in a song"(Elder Crow), "Best loud rock band", "Album of the year"(The Moonlight Show), and "Best live act".

Hailing from Buffalo NY, Pollock is an ambient metal/hard rock band with intense rhythms and unique time signatures. The vocals consisting of elements from poetry, the occult, and mythology make a blend of melodies that envelope the listener. Their music is accompanied by their performance which is used to represent the idea of bringing an art form to life.

Pollock joined the Buffalo music scene in July, 2005. Since then, the band has procured a faithful fan base, toured the Northeast, and released multiple albums. The band hit the Buffalo music scene hard with the Valentine EP (released in October 2010) and spent the following two years opening for national acts and touring regionally. In the late spring of 2012, the band released a follow up EP, La Fin Du Monde, which landed them a first place award in the loud rock/metal category of WBNY’s Western NY Music Awards. On January 19th of this year, Pollock released their much anticipated 12 track LP, “The Moonlight Show”. Awash in a sea of cerebral percussion and emotional swells, Pollock continues to bring the heavy and huge sound that has become the band's trademark. The ever changing mood of the songs is enhanced by layers of strings and percussion; a unique sound that is simultaneously dark, uplifting, heavy, and like a dream.

"Hot new release from Pollock" by Cyrus Rhodes
Buffalo based 4 piece band Pollock just released their latest effort The Moonlight Show (2013). Band members include Joshua Klein - guitar/vocals / Brian Platter- guitar / Lindsay Leyland- Bass / Mike Quigley - Drums / Aaron Chiz - Synths. The CD kicks things off with Track 1 “Devil” a methodical and dynamic prelude of sorts that’s serves up melodic guitar driven textures, panted against dynamic musical flow and impressive syncopated culmination. This piece leads you head first into Track 2 “A New Machine” serves up rock steady rock anthem that dishes out impressive musical theatrics painted against melodic vocals and thought provoking lyrical content. Track 3 shifts gears a bit with “Elder Crow” a dynamic piece with heartfelt vocal delivery, and aggressive distorted guitar attack that flows and ebbs its way though to emotional fruition. As the CD quickly unfolds I can hear influences ranging from Queensryche, 3 Doors Down, Tool and even Incubus. The music has everything you would expect from a dynamic Alternative/Progressive Rock CD, but also touches straight up Ambient/Hard Rock that’s quite dynamic and melodic. The style of the music is highly original and refuses to be pinned down the first listen. The vocals from Klein are impressive, compelling and push the emotional envelope and imagination. The guitar ambience is very melodic and dynamic and the musical flow and ebb is highly creative and exotic dishing out much in the way of impressive time signature curve balls throughout. I especially love the double bass action from Chiz and some of the blistering solos. The overall vocal style works extremely well with the confines of this progressive and dynamic rock catalogue and the intensity and emotions is off the charts - my hats of to Klein. Rhythm section - lays down the low end groove thick as a brick. What I like most about Pollock is their sheer unpredictability note for note and song for song. By track 4 the CD hits solid stride dishing out many impressive songs in a row. Like a heavy weight boxer the impressive chops and amazing songs keep coming at you one after the other - with no sign of letting up. From mystic "Saudade" to melodic "Scarlet" to striking "Element" to rocking "8MM" to dynamic "Valentine" this CD has something for just about everyone. CD ends with Track 10 "Ipsos" the perfect finale statement for a CD like this. All songs over 4 minutes tend to drag you to the finish line. Some of the material from Pollock sounds like more like Tool more than Tool. The Moonlight Show is a hot new release from Pollock. the whole album is an impressive and extremely consistent musical statement from start to finish. Its strength – the strong song for song consistency, progressive dynamics and exotic, strong melodic structure that keep you guessing. The music is progressive, unpredictable, heavy and highly original. Like a heavy weight fighter this CD packs a powerful yet unpredictable punch, and goes the full 12 rounds with no sign of letting up. Need I Say more – it’s vintage Pollock Cyrus Rhodes

"Valentine By Pollock" by Michael Mallory
About the Artist This is one 4 piece band from Buffalo, NY that brings to the table effective songwriting with a high-energy prog-driven delivery. This is Pollock’s latest release entitled “Valentine” released in 2010 & it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Band members include: Joshua Klein (Guitars, Vox), Mary Schnepf (Bass & Vox) Ryan Patrick (Guitar), & Michael Quigley (Drums). Venturing to their website (a professional presentation) I get the impression this band is also known for their powerful live performances around the New York area as well. The opening track "New Machine” sets the stage rather well for this CD. It was a great intro piece which had me focused eagerly on what lied ahead. All in all the whole EP is a great teaser of sorts & a fascinating musical statement. Music reminded me a little of the usual suspects: Prefect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave & even Sevendust. There are some fantastic grooves on this CD which gives this band a modern Alternative Rock vibe that is dark & extremely captivating. Kudos goes out to Klein’s vocal presence which works well. The whole band just grooves together as a whole. Conclusion: This is a good start for Pollock. I can’t wait to hear the full length release this Summer. 7 0f 10 starts

Over the years we’ve seen rock & hard rock slowly erode into over-commercialized, corporate puppet shows providing music that is extremely sing songy, predictable, popish & highly corporate. I hereby call this new breed of music “Poser Rock” & I want to personally thank all the corporate giants for successfully transforming “Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll” into “Yoga, Vitamins, & Nikelback” Of course millions of musical lemmings don’t know the difference, but not everyone is amused. Talking to many music fans out there the response is overwhelming. Give me something new, something raw, something that’s pushes the envelope with a fresh sound that doesn’t sound like Nikelback, Daughtry or Lifehouse. So across my desk slides the new CD by New York’s own Pollock. What I heard put a smile on my face. This latest CD entitled Valentine. It’s an adrenalin soaked EP that delivers solid songwriting with a hard hitting rock edge. Pollock reminds me of a modern day Perfect Circle, Tool & Chevelle but a bit more passionate & melodic. This latest EP is a polished sounding production from start to finish. If you like the above bands you should definitely check out this CD. CD is available on CD BABY & can be downloaded on I – Tunes. Valentine by Pollock is a solid EP sampler with many hard rocking grooves with a heavy New York guitar driven sound that hits hard right between the eyes. It’s a record that gives us a fresh glimpse at a new artist & takes us back a few years – before everything started sounding like – well Nikelback.

Pollock-"Valentine" by Markus Druery
The Artist I recently checked out the latest CD from New York 4 piece Pollock entitled Valentine. The band The playing abilities of this band is pretty solid across the board. I would say they possess intermediate playing abilities & intermediate writing abilities. Timing seems to be a bit choppy in some spots within the indie-alternative rock grooves. Klein's voice is effective as he delivers many solid vocal performances that match the indie style of music perfectly. The music Upbeat, raw, in your face, interesting, melodic, & highly entertaining. Musical textures reminiscent of Tool, Perfect Circle, Chevelle & Incubus – anything indie & heavy. If you like those kinds of artists you will no doubt get a kick out of this CD. The songs Above average songs. Very simple yet effective, conservative, highly original, raw & powerful. It strikes the prefect balance between alternative & just a dash of punk. This band is clearly being themselves as songwriters & this is what comes out of the other end. My favorite song on the CD is Uriel. The vibe Great vibe. Perfect for late night college parties, coffeehouses, or even magazine shops. The production delivers a raw musical variety. I give this band hi marks for not being afraid to let it all hang out musically. Accidental Tribe is not trying to be some popish punk band striving for mass appeal – they are just being themselves. The CD refuses to try to hard. The good Very likeable record & band, solid songs & fun to listen to. The bad Nothing to report. I will however say this is EP has been out for a while. It's a good start but a Full Length CD is yet to be heard. The ugly Nothing to report. The verdict Valentine by Pollock is a rock solid CD. The songwriting is clearly above average. The production gets it’s point across. Again the most amazing thing about this CD is the raw indie groove presented on each piece. Fans of carefree Punk, Alternative-College Rock will love this CD no doubt.

All songs are short & sweet musical experiences, & packed to the hilt with everything you would expect from a cutting edge hard rock release. It’s definitely a fully loaded EP from start to finish with heavy rocking grooves, thought provoking lyrical content, & rich melodic vocal layering.
