Alice Sweet Alice (ASA) — based in Kansas City, Missouri—USA — was conceived on Halloween of 2007. ASA, a 5-piece band founded by Scott Martinez on bass and vocals, released its’ first two albums with pianist and vocalist Ali Kat and online collaborative guitarist Jeffrey Galios. Following extensive tryouts in mid-2009, Billy Brown joined ASA on drums, with Tyler Klein and Alan Hicks completing ASA’s lineup on guitars. ASA released their sophomore album, “Moloko & Ultraviolence”, in May 2009. This is the pile-driven, powerhouse follow up to their premier release, “First Light”, released in 2008. Both LP’s are available for sale through American independent record label Cauldron Soundwerx, and in Bulgaria (with worldwide distribution) through AMAdea Records. ASA is also working with Ravenheart Music Records, and Leaping Cat Records in the UK on regional / European promotion and obtaining brick & mortar sales opportunities overseas.
ASA, ascribing their genera to be “Electropostpunkadelic”, creates exciting music that is truly a fusion of ASA members’ respective and diverse musical backgrounds. ASA’s unique brand of rock has been compared to the likes of Pink Floyd and the Doors for their hard-hitting rock and psychedelic tendencies, and The Floyds, Smashing Pumpkins, Clan of Xymox, Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine for their inspired use of darkwave sonic spectrums. ASA's music can be described as being complex, yet intricately textured with contrasting themes and overtones that synthesize their European and American influences, generating a sound that is both innovative and trademark. Songs vary from serene to turbulent in their aesthetic use of acoustics, found samples, electric guitar effects, and synth-composition. ASA’s live shows are enhanced with powerful displays that combine both theater and raw energy. ASA emphasizes songwriting, as dramatic lyrical performance is meshed with structured noise.
With ASA’s lineup finally intact, the group is continually rehearsing and perfecting their live show for regional performances, while working with overseas partners in planning a European tour for 2010. Finally, as prolific and restless as ASA’s songwriters are, listen for new and exciting material to be offered all along the way.

ASA's First Light - Reviewed 5th September 2008 by Ravenheart Music New England based Scott Martinez's band Alice Sweet Alice have been compared to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Doors for their hard-hitting rock and psychedelic tendencies, and Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine for their inspired use of the darkwave sonic spectrum. They are strictly speaking not Female fronted, but Ali Kat (keys and Synths) is in the band, and she does share vocal duties on occasion with Scott Martinez, two tracks actually fronted by Ali too. And my admiration goes to Scott for releasing this cd on his own label, after some let downs with Renaissance Records. 'First Light' is not bad...not bad at all (great production too), and I myself can hear touches of Pink Floyd as mentioned above, and even the Moody Blues in places too. My fave tracks are the opener 'Alone', 'With You, With Me', 'Blood Roses', 'What A Lonely Day' (great vox by Ali on this one), 'Geraldine' and the haunting 'Fallen Angel' (also sung by Ali). I would suggest surfing your way to www.cauldronsoundwerx.com. and consider placing an order - NOW. A cool release! 8/10

Highly Recommended 'darkwave from New England' by RebelRiffs Not sure exactly where this track got on this list because I have a couple of addresses for the band, both of which are in the links above. A new name to me, Alice Sweet Alice is 'darkwave from New England', an area justly famed for its leanings towards the dark side so a band seems only right somehow. A four peice band consisting of Scott Martinez (who seems to do everything except switch the lights off), Julie Cartonio on vocals and guitar, Jeffrey Galios on lead guitar and Ali Kat on keyboards and vocals. If the name sounds familiar, it comes from a 1977 schlock horror movie which featured the dubious debut of one Brooke Shields.
Let's all take a deep breath right now...
Alice Sweet Alice (ASA) state that their material 'leans towards the macabre' and that certainly proves true musically, although I would have liked to have seen some lyrics. Defiantly rock based, Alone, has a muscular feel to it from the getgo and I was a bit surprised to see that they were not a gigging band because the track was nice and tight - the way it should be. One of my major technical problems with material of this kind is the often duff sound that accompanies it. If you are going to make music that describes the Crack Of Doom, it better fekkin well SOUND like it, know what I mean. Drums the size of England, guitars wider than oceans and a vocal that tears the heart from your chest.
Aye, it would be wise to gulp right now.
Having found no fault whatsever in the production, all comes down to the performance and songwriting and it is obvious that the skill doesn't just lie in the technical. ASA are a hard, intelligent sound in a sea of clones, sneakily substituting vocal phrasing, tone and delivery rather than the usual weepin' wailin' and general gnashing of teeth. It's a given then that someone like me would go for this track, it has pretty much everything I look for in a track. It isn't an instant ear-grabber right enough, but given enough time it definitely packs the right punch.
