Few people in a scene ever emerge to become the name on the tip of virtually every tongue among industry leaders. Lyrical has become that name all over New England, especially in and around Boston as an esteemed emcee, lyricist, event planner, and even college professor
Lyrical has won numerous MC battles and awards, headlined and hosted shows, recorded national chart toping songs, and even recorded the “Album of the Year”, iNFiNiTi, as voted on in 2006 by thousands online and in stores. The album’s lead single, The Focuz Is Back , hit #2 on the July 2006 National College Radio/Mix Show Charts, with the flip side Come With Me hitting #8 in August! His name holds particular weight as a lyricist, published since a teen in the early 90’s. He has written songs used in media campaigns and commercials for clients such as: the late presidential nominee Paul Tsongas, Hewlett Packard, Apollo, State Rep. Nick Paleologus, Converse, as well as recordings for his groups Invasion & X-Caliber
As a businessman, Lyrical is the head of Invasion Entertainment, a company that emerged as one of only a few promotion companies regularly putting on Hip Hop shows throughout Greater Boston. Lyrical was the lead promoter every Friday night of 2003-2004 at Axis/Avalon in Boston, successfully bringing live Hip Hop & R&B to this venue, formerly known for rock and alternative music. He put together a 1000 person invite only show at the Roxy in 2004 with an all night open bar sponsored by Bud Light (called the event of the year by most on hand) featuring a live performance by R&B star Carl Thomas with Ricky Davis (Celtics) on hand celebrating his birthday.
Lyrical simultaneously has taught as an adjunct professor at Lasell College, Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, Middlesex Community College and was hired part-time this year to teach at The New England Institute of Art. He continues to teach one course a night at Lasell where his class puts on its’ own industry event each semester, as well as other high profile events on campus. Before teaching college he taught high school math in his native city of Lowell for several years after developing the Lowell Alternative High School Program for the city.
Balancing his love of math and music he went on to teach Hip Hop culture and lyricism for many school aged youth and developed curriculum for their schools and programs such as Sociadad Latina, The City of Cambridge after school program, and the Somerville Housing Authority and Department of Arts, and he has taught and performed this past summer for hundreds of urban youth for the City of Boston (Boston R.O.C.K.S. program). He is a graduate of Business (Marketing/Econ) at UMass-Lowell, where he continues his graduate studies of mathematics, and in 2007 he took courses at Harvard towards the completion of his Masters. In September of 2007 he will meet with Berklee working to put together a new course on Hip Hop Lyric writing.
-Lyrical spearheaded the Mass Industry Committee’s 1st (and 2nd ) Annual Hip Hop Award show, a 1000 person event that took place in the prestigious John Hancock Hall (Back Bay Events Center) in Boston to rave reviews by the entire Hip Hop community of Massachusetts. Lyrical and the M.I.C. also developed a new TV show “617 LIVE” which airs on Comcast in the Boston area Friday nights on Channel 26 WCEA, and has received heavy press and publicity due to its high quality production, and commitment to homegrown talent.
-He also functions as an independent label owner of Dotted “i” Music & Entertainment (D.i.M.E.) with digital distribution by Blaze the World Records. Blaze owner Jonah Fialcoff and Lyrical are again united as members of the Board of Directors of the United Label Coalition (ULC) working towards publishing books by Lyrical where he will speak and lead seminars on the music business and his own life as an artist, promoter and educator all in one. -Lyrical is a member of Mayor Menino and the City of Boston’s “Hip Hop Roundtable” helping plan the entertainment for the annual city hall Peace Fest Hip Hop Show and the events surrounding it such as conferences at the Strand Theatre that engage and empower the youth through Hip Hop. In 2005 Lyrical performed to twenty thousand people at the show opening for Big Daddy Kane; in 2006 he was involved both behind the scenes and on stage opening for Rakim.
