[- Hide] The Jonesboro Sun/by Chris Swindle Paragould - With a penchant for good times and fun music, four guys from Northeast Arkansas are trying to share a little of their positivity as Mr. Happy. The 4-piece ensemble--drummer Shaun Mayfield, guitarist James Miller, bassist Rob Row and vocalist Chris Webster-has been around nearly 4 years. "And we still haven't practiced." Webster said. Miller says Mr. Happy is for "anybody who will listen," but band members acknowledge most of their live shows are in bars and clubs, which keeps some younger music lovers away. Webster described Mr Happy's music as "rock pure and simple," and said the group is always glad to play live. "I think we're just happy that people show up," Webster said. "Of course, even when people don't show up we still have a lot of fun." Row agreed, saying that live performances are always blast. "It's most definitely party time-excellent!" the bassist said. Among them, the members of Mr Happy have more than four decades of musical experience, making them at least well versed. The group members have opened for such acts as Dr. Hook, Black Oak Arkansas, Foghat, Jackyl, Collapsis, Dream Theater, and Chase Buchannan. Plus, the band has not only performed in Arkansas, but throughout Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Texas, and Colorado. INFLUENCES AND FEARLESSNESS: Band members cite various musical influences that range from'60's acid rock to '80's hair metal to Sawyer Brown. "I love all kinds of music," Webster said. "We mostly play covers live, and they really run the gamut. If we know it, we'll play it." "If we don't know it, we'll probably try it anyway," Miller said. "With the proper motivation," Webster added. Mr. Happy has been known to play covers that no one in the band actually knew how to play, Miller said. The band is working toward recording a CD, but it's still in the early stages, Webster said. When the CD is available, it should have at least 10 tracks, he added. Band members say they're not worried about other area bands because Mr. Happy is in it to have fun. "Music is not competitive if you play for the love of it," Row said. As for original music, the band's main lyricists are Miller and Webster, and the two focus on a variety of topics such as love, hate, relationships and loss. Despite the band's name, Webster said he tends to write songs that are not all that happy. "I find more motivation in despair than happiness," Webster says. "I have yet to write a happy song that I didn't think was complete cheese." So Mr. Happy is celebrating four years of playing music, has a CD in the works, loves playing live music and doesn't tend to write songs that are actually...happy. Where can they go from here? "Keep playing," Row said.

- 1 Mesa Boggie Rectifier (with 2 or 4x12 cabinet) or comparable 2x12 amp

Bass Amp
- 8x10 cabinet or 2-4x10 cabinets (a minimum of 1000 watts of power/a Pro line bass preamp - GK, Sansamp, Line 6)
- 1 high quality direct box

Easy enough for the do-it-yourselfer to accomplish in a matter of minutes!
