I was considering the song Cowpunk, which is one of the genres within Ourstage's definition (http://artists.ourstage.com/getthefaqs#channelinformationanddefinitions): "Alternative Countr Americana, roots-rock, rockabilly, country-rock, and other hybrid genres like cowpunk...these are all acceptable in this channel. Any country-influenced music that is markedly different from the slick productions of modern mainstream country is appropriate for Alternative Country. Vocals are required and lyrics must be in English."
Actually, most of what I've heard in the Alt Country channel is just plain country. Check out The Supersuckers for a great Cowpunk band.
