With creative input from three distinct songwriting voices -- and musical backgrounds ranging from folk and alt.country to jazz and classical -- the Chicago-based Lost Cartographers create a sound that is somehow familiar, yet lives on the margins of any number of genres. Though rooted in the traditions of Americana, the music of the Lost Cartographers charts a sound that proves, as Melville said, that true places are never on a map.
