PlayHe Rides a Painted Pony

by Dail Martin

The artwork is by Shari Boyce, a Blackfoot Native American friend of mine. She explains it: woman is not below man, wolf is the protector, man[2 legged] and bear[4 legged] are equals in this world. Tomahawk and peace pipe in opposition to each other nullify. This song reflects the anguish of the Native Americans' history of conflict and pursuit of peace. If you have ever read "Bury My Heart at Wounder Knee" you will understand exactly what I am talking about.
