Micheal Jackson established a practice in song writing that many neglect. He set the context for his music using more than a hook; he used an introduction. I'll Never Forget is begging for a stronger intro. The duo didn't add anything to the otherwise solid work of the female lead and the sensible application of a rolling 6/8 rhythm. More of an "over and over" approach to the arrangement than a "peak and valley" sensibillity, I'll Never Forget left me desiring a climax, of emotion, and musical dynamic. But I am a sucker for 6/8 so I did like what I heard. Maynard's various projects (Perfect Circle, Tool) have made their living off of 6/8 time signature. Their approach is worthy of Within The Eddy's inspection.
