Ma'ayan Castel

About Ma'ayan Castel

Boston, MA

Recently opening for VV Brown, Ma'ayan, like her name; one definition of the Hebrew word is "wishing-well" -dives deep when it comes to her music and her live performances. A Berklee College of Music graduate and A four-time finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, she writes and co-writes all of her material, and describes herself as an introverted synth-tweeking-music geek. This may be the case, but you wouldn't know it by her live show, she has a massive presence on stage and her vocals are spot on and powerful. Her influences range from Bjork to The Police, Ali Farka Toure to Radiohead. Ma'ayan's singing voice is as unique as her point of view. Always clever, always fun, and always very sexy. This is a girl who will without a doubt pull you in, weather you are male or female, she has that "thing".

Together with her partners in crime producers/songwriters Leo Mellace and Steve Catizone, Castel released an EP in '08 called Walk On Water, which made some serious waves around the country leading her to several label Showcases including one at the legendary Birdland for the legendary Bruce Lundvall of Blue Note Records. They are currently finishing up some much anticipated new material! She describes the new music as a "reactionary mash-up of modern pop + culture" fusing indie-pop, reggae, and psychodelic rock into a style that is sure to be identifiable as her very own soon enough.
