About XEL1

MCKinney, TX

The world is about to witness what it's been missing from Hip Hop for a long long time... GOOD MUSIC!!! If you live in the DFW TX and haven’t heard of X.E.L. (XTRA ENHANCED LYRIST) then you need to come from under that rock. X.E.L. is a talented artist that talks about real situations that people can feel in his music. With his debut release of “DUCKS FLY SOUTH”, X.E.L. paints the perfect canvas, taking you inside stories that feel so real you just have to close your eyes as his world unfolds before you. This is a talent some Emcees long for... Comes easy for others... Impossible for many.

“Some people are just born talented and they know exactly what their talent is, some have to find out what their talent is and then run with it or throw it away, while others siphon from talented people just to make themselves seem talented. You know that saying that anybody can rap... now that's a lie... just think about hip hop and any other music... you can sing someone’s song and people will say you can really sing but you cant rap someone’s rap and people say your a good rapper or your spitting that real hip hop, so lets stop lying to ourselves. These are the things that separate hip hop from all other music either you got it or you don't and it seems like the people that don't are still making it in the music. This is why I talk about talent because everybody has one you just have to know which is yours. Take me for example I was born with the talents to do many things but didn't know what they were till later."... X.E.L.

As a young man in Brooklyn N.Y., X.E.L was never afraid of the spotlight, performing lead for his church choir at the young age of 12, as well performing in stage plays for audiences big and small. X followed his older brother like a shadow, with the mindset “whatever my brother can do, I can do too.” First trying to copy his brothers natural ability for art, but could never draw quite as well. X.E.L. was fascinated by CAD programs and learning how to use them so he attended the High School of Art & Design where he studied architecture. X accredits this period where his life took a different turn. Around this time his brother had evolved into MAD MIND and formed with a group that called themselves MIC FIENS which consisted of himself, KID RED AKA RED MENACE, & MARK. That was the inspiration that started X.E.L. on his path to becoming an Emcee. He picked up his first pad and started writing. His first rhyme faced the right of passage laid down by all big brothers, who just laughed and said keep trying kid, someday you will get it. So that's exactly what he did, kept writing.

Senior year in high school X decided it was time to see if he had it or not. The high school lunch room table was the battlefield, those real emcee's know what I’m talking about. Where the whole cafeteria is looking at you and this will prove if you have the talent or not. X.E.L. states "My first time... everybody was looking at me and I forgot the verse I was going to say.. so I started spitting and the words just kept coming for the verse. Mad cats were feeling me. I mean of course you had your hatters, but that was the day I deiced this was the life for me." As X started mastering his craft, he was approached by a forming group called the “SOULJAZ OF DARKNESS”, consisting of multi, very talented members. X.E.L. (known as CRISSISS at the time) gladly joined the group which, opened his eyes to a broader spectrum of music as a career. With management representation, they went in front of labels like Select Records, but fell short due to differences about which way to take the music. The group soon deteriorated, with members going their own ways to colleges or to different jobs. Some went away from the music as well, but X.E.L. stuck to it even while attending college in Connecticut. College taught X.E.L. what people really wanted to hear from music not just hip hop but all genre and that was, just good music, something that can last.

The year 2001 is one of reflection for X.E.L., who's father passed away just months before the 9/11 tragedy that changed our world. That year lead him to believe that time is too short for dreaming... he had to go out and get it. So from then on he worked harder on his craft than ever before. X started working with a producers like MIGIDI MAC and the ATEAM which consisted of ROB LO and DEE. As his views of life and manhood changed the CRISSISS was over and a new artist was born... X.E.L. OHHH!!!! Working with new people and meeting all the underground heads in Brooklyn a new talent had emerged with raw lyrics and talent undeniable. Everyone that heard him knew he would be a force to reckon with some day.

"I met a lot of cats in NY that were up and coming and some that were already on like my man HANK SHOOKLEY, CHUCK D, and my man ABNORMAL who was an up and coming producer. They led me in the right direction in this music and said if you get a chance to get away from NY it would be better for you to experience more of the world and they were right. So that’s when I decided to check out Texas to see how it was. The music scene was a little different but I could still call it home. I wasn’t alone my boy MIGIDI MAC came down to Texas as well and we started working again out here. I also met other producers like Billy Syn of Valley of the Kings and my new manager J.L. DUVALL of DOGSOLDIER MANAGEMENT. Together with this new team, we will make something happen for the DFW."... X.E.L.

Together with his new team, X.E.L. has put together a classic album for people who were missing GOOD MUSIC called "DUCKS FLY SOUTH"... No tricks, No gimmicks here... just Hip Hop at its best. Something you can just play from beginning to end without being disappointed. This is the artist that you have been waiting for... Hear for yourself.
