PlayYou Are Worthy [of Your Glory]

by Jon Shirley

My very good friend and then co-leader of the Gathering, Isaac Anderson, believes Gerard Manly Hopkins to be the Bono of Victorian poetry and will use any and every opportunity to share his works. In the late winter of '06, Isaac preached one of the most stunning sermons I’ve ever heard on the beauty of God. I drove home from church with a head full of pictures and a determination to write my imaginations into a melody I had been singing for weeks. Those thoughts became this song.

great song. good words. nice imagery. Is this for concert ministry or worship ministry? Try to stay away from dropping off your words... comes across as more of a grunt out of the words... you are worthy.. swings beautifully and then stutters a bit through some of the words producing a slight feeling of uncertainty, but otherwise it is still a great song to do live in a praise concert or worship service... Aims for vertical expression and is affective when you hit the you are worthy... i guess its just those words that still carry so much strength to this day. I am a hard, but loving critique... lol Keep writing more of this stuff. It's great.

I really like this song. Has a Chris Tomlin feel to it. Great worship song. Our church does lots of our own original music, but is always look for other original new songs...I'd like to talk with you about our church possibly using your song in our worship sets. Keep writing and Keep worshiping our redeemer and savior!

This song spoke to my heart..such a beatiful and powerful song!

The heart of a worshiper is easy to detect and God loves the heart of a worshiper. This song is to God & about God...the reason it's a winner! I love it. Praise God!

There's great 'heart' in the song, but as far as worship songs go, it's not memorable enough. The melody is similar in the verse and chorus, the only difference is in the production and arrangement. A worship song should be composed in mind for the congregation to sing it with very little accompianment, relying heavily on melody and simple lyrics. The music soars, the melody doesn't. Lyrically, the chorus is good, the verses on the other hand are a little wordy. The melody needs some work. I'm sure it sounds great in a big sanctuary with a great worship band, but I'm afraid it would fall flat in a smaller congregation. One piano, a guitar player, I don't think this song would have the same impact. Nice production, whoever tracked and mixed the song is amazing.
